Exciting Multi-Format Series: South Africa Women’s Cricket Team to Host India and Australia
New Delhi, March 20 – The South Africa women’s cricket team is set to host two of cricket’s most formidable teams, India and Australia, in a packed summer schedule that features multi-format matches, including two rare Test encounters. This highly anticipated tour kicks off with a three-match ODI series against India, part of the ICC Women’s Championship, starting March 9 in Potchefstroom.
India’s Tour Schedule with South Africa
The series will commence with the first ODI on March 9 in Potchefstroom, followed by the second ODI in Bloemfontein. The final match will take place at Newlands in Cape Town. These ODIs hold critical importance as they contribute towards qualification for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2029.
One-Off Test Match
In addition to the ODI series, a one-off Test match is scheduled at St George’s Park in Gqeberha from December 20 to 23. This match will mark only the fourth red-ball clash between the two teams, with India having triumphed in all three previous meetings in 2002, 2014, and 2024. Notably, the Test match will coincide with the men’s Test series opener between England and South Africa in Johannesburg, creating a unique atmosphere for cricket lovers in the country.
Anticipating Australia’s Historic Visit
The focus will soon shift to Australia’s much-anticipated visit. This marks their first full bilateral tour of South Africa since a planned trip in 2020 was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The series will commence with three T20 International matches starting March 18 in Kimberley, followed by contests in Benoni and KuGompo City (East London).
ODI and Test Format Series Against Australia
Following the T20 matches, the two teams will compete in a three-match ODI series from March 27, commencing in Gqeberha and concluding on April 3 in Durban. The last ODI will be recognized as a ‘Black Day’ fixture, bringing attention to the ongoing fight against gender-based violence in South Africa. The series will culminate with a one-off Test at the JB Marks Oval in North West from April 8 to 11, marking only the second Test match between South Africa and Australia in women’s cricket, following their previous encounter in Perth in February 2024, which Australia won decisively by an innings and 284 runs.
Excitement from Cricket Administrators
Pholetsi Moseki, CEO of Cricket South Africa, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming season, stating, “We are delighted to host two of the world’s top teams, India and Australia, for what promises to be a thrilling home summer for the Proteas Women. These tours will not only showcase the very best of international women’s cricket but also enhance the increasing fan attendance across the country.”
