Casablanca Hosts Inaugural Industrial Transformation Africa Event

Casablanca – Key industry figures and institutional partners convened on Tuesday at The Venue Downtown to announce the launch of the first edition of Industrial Transformation Africa (ITAF), an international event focusing on automation and smart manufacturing.

Event Overview and Timing

As preparations ramp up for the event set to take place from September 29 to October 1, the press conference marked a significant milestone in the kickoff of ITAF. This initiative is spearheaded by Deutsche Messe AG in collaboration with Hannover Fairs MENA, and co-organized at the local level by Smart Expos & Events Morocco. Morocco’s strategic designation as a key player for industrial transformation in Africa positions the nation as a pivotal hub for manufacturing, technology, and innovation.

Strategic Choice of Casablanca

“The choice of Africa is deliberate; the choice of Casablanca is strategic,” affirmed Mehtap Gürsoy, Managing Director of Hannover Fairs Turkey & MENA. This statement emphasizes the rationale behind selecting Morocco’s bustling capital for the continental gathering.

Morocco boasts a prime geographical location bridging Europe and Africa, reinforced by well-established industrial ecosystems and modern infrastructure. This positioning has allowed Morocco to become a leading manufacturing hub, particularly in sectors such as automotive and aerospace, supported by integrated industrial zones and logistics platforms like Tanger Med Port.

Growing Industrial Demand in Africa

During an interview with Morocco World News (MWN), Gürsoy elaborated on Morocco’s suitability for hosting ITAF. She noted that Africa is currently experiencing democratic growth and an increasing demand for advanced manufacturing solutions. The continent is accelerating its industrial sector largely due to rapid technological adoption, investment, and favorable policy frameworks.

“Morocco uniquely connects Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. It is an industrial hub that fosters innovation, stability, and clarity, alongside a long-term vision exemplified through initiatives like Digital Strategy 2030,” Gürsoy stated.

Focus on the Future: ITAF 2026

As Africa continues to confront the pressing need for efficient, resilient, and competitive production systems, ITAF aims to address these challenges head-on. The event intends to explore how emerging technologies—including artificial intelligence, robotics, automation, and smart energy systems—can enhance the continent’s industrial capabilities and its integration into global value chains.

Participants can expect a comprehensive showcase that covers a wide range of innovations vital to the future of manufacturing. Key areas of focus will include motion and drive technologies, as well as compressed air and vacuum systems, essential components in modern industrial processes.

Several leading industrial players, such as OCP Maintenance Solutions, IFM Electronic, Igus, and Epson, have confirmed their participation for the 2026 edition, emphasizing the international interest in Africa’s industrial potential.

Core Pillars of ITAF

Industrial Transformation Africa is structured around three essential pillars that align with Industry 4.0, a concept pioneered by Hannover Messe. These pillars encompass:

  1. A large-scale international exhibition showcasing the latest technologies.
  2. A Smart Factory Academy in Casablanca dedicated to skill development and applied innovation.
  3. The Industrial Edge Summit Africa, a platform for dialogue among industry leaders, policymakers, and institutional representatives.

A Long-term Vision for Industrial Development

In a conversation with MWN, Katharina Felgenhauer, CEO of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Morocco, highlighted the long-term vision underpinning this initiative.

“This event is a vital component of a multi-year vision involving various partners,” she explained. Felgenhauer portrayed the project as an integrated ecosystem that binds industrial and innovative components together.

Highlighting the goal of ITAF, she stated, “It’s not just to showcase technologies but also to provide ongoing support for industrial development. The aim is to create a platform where industrial transformation can thrive beyond the event.”

Conclusion

With its inaugural edition on the horizon, Industrial Transformation Africa underscores Casablanca’s role as a critical gateway for the continent’s industrial evolution. This event will serve as a cornerstone for building bridges between global technology providers and African industrial players, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and fostering innovation.

As Africa gears up for this transformative experience, all eyes will be on Casablanca as it cements its role in shaping the future of global manufacturing.
