Kabras Sugar to Face Black Pirates in 2026 Enterprise Cup Final
Kabras Sugar from Kenya and Uganda’s Black Pirates have secured their spots in the highly anticipated 2026 Enterprise Cup final, scheduled for May 30. The semifinals, held on April 11, showcased thrilling performances from both teams, setting the stage for an exhilarating East African showdown.
Kabras Sugar Triumphs Over Menengai Oilers
Kabras Sugar clinched their final berth by defeating Menengai Oilers 29-20 in a gripping semifinal match at the ASK Showground in Kakamega. This victory signifies Kabras’ continued dominance in the tournament, having previously won the title for five consecutive seasons.
The Oilers initially took the lead with a successful penalty, putting them ahead 3-0. However, Kabras quickly responded. Edward Mwaura scored their first try which was converted by Jone Kubu, giving Kabras a 7-3 advantage. The scoring continued as Roy Maruti added another try, allowing Kabras to extend their lead to 14-3.
Despite fierce competition, the Oilers managed to narrow the gap through a converted try, making it 14-10. Just before halftime, Kabras executed a well-timed maul to seize control again, leading 21-10 at the break.
In the second half, Kabras maintained their momentum with an early unconverted try, pushing their lead to 26-10. A penalty from the Oilers brought the score to 26-13. Kabras sealed their victory with another penalty from Kubu, ultimately winning 29-20.
Black Pirates Narrowly Defeat Nondies
In the other semifinal, the Black Pirates edged out Nondies with a close score of 20-17 at Kings Park Arena in Kampala. The Pirates kicked off the match with a penalty from William Nkore, establishing an early 3-0 lead. Nondies leveled the score with their own penalty, later taking a 10-3 lead through a brilliant try.
As the match developed, Jeremiah Okello scored for Black Pirates, drawing the teams level at 10-10 by halftime. Emerging from the break, the Pirates captured the momentum, scoring two unconverted tries from Alex Aturinda and Conrad Wanyama, and despite a late response from Nondies, the final score was set at 20-17.
A Historic Final Awaits
The upcoming final marks a significant moment for East African rugby as it is the first time in over two decades that teams from the region will contest the Enterprise Cup.
