Enterprise Cup 2026: The Historic Return of Cross-Border Rugby
The Enterprise Cup, one of Africa’s oldest rugby tournaments, will return to its original cross-border format on Saturday, March 21, 2026—the first time since 1999. This long-anticipated revival promises exciting matchups as four Kenyan teams clash with four elite Ugandan sides in a thrilling quarterfinal showdown.
Cross-Border Showdowns: Teams and Matchups
This year’s competition shines a spotlight on the exciting matchups as teams from both nations compete fiercely. The quarterfinals will showcase:
- Nondies vs KCB KOBs at the ASK Nakuru Showground, Kenya, starting at 1 PM EAT.
- Menengai Oilers vs Toyota Buffaloes at the same venue, kicking off at 3 PM EAT.
- Platinum Credit Heathens vs Kabras Sugar at the Muteesa II Royal Stadium, Uganda, at 2 PM EAT.
- Stanbic Black Pirates vs KCB Rugby also at Muteesa II Royal Stadium, beginning at 4 PM EAT.
Enterprise Cup 2026: A Legacy Continues
Established in 1930, the Enterprise Cup is now in its 96th year, making it the second-oldest rugby tournament in Africa, only behind South Africa’s Currie Cup. In a remarkable turn, this tournament allows Ugandan teams to compete against Kenyan adversaries for the first time in over two decades. This reinstates the tournament’s original spirit of friendly rivalry among East African rugby powers.
The Teams’ Journey to the Quarterfinals
The Ugandan representatives were selected based on their performance in the Uganda Cup, which concluded in December 2025. The top teams—Black Pirates, Heathens, KCB KOBs, and Toyota Buffaloes—emerged as the finest sides in the tournament. On the other hand, 16 Kenyan clubs had entered the Enterprise Cup last December, progressing past initial rounds with many teams demonstrating formidable strength.
Speaking ahead of the fixtures, Heathens head coach Tolbert Onyango emphasized the importance of this tournament: “It’s crucial for Ugandan teams to measure themselves against their Kenyan counterparts to evaluate our level of rugby.”
Upcoming Quarterfinal Matches
As both countries gear up for these monumental clashes, the anticipation among fans is palpable. The following matches are scheduled:
In Uganda
- Heathens vs Kabras Sugar – Muteesa II Royal Stadium, Wankulukuku, 2 PM EAT
- Black Pirates vs KCB Rugby – Muteesa II Royal Stadium, Wankulukuku, 4 PM EAT
In Kenya
- Nondescripts vs KCB KOBs – ASK Nakuru Showground, 1 PM EAT
- Menengai Oilers vs Buffaloes – ASK Nakuru Showground, 3 PM EAT
Significance of the Tournament
With all eyes on these quarterfinals, each team aims not only to progress but also to reclaim a title that has eluded Ugandan teams for over two decades. The last Ugandan team to lift the coveted cup was the now-defunct Kampala RFC, who achieved the honor four times throughout their history.
As the Enterprise Cup continues, the winners from these cross-border fixtures will advance to the semifinals on April 11, with the final match scheduled for May 30. The stage is set for a historic revival of rugby rivalry in East Africa, as fans eagerly await to witness who will emerge victorious!
